Research theme

Sepsis is defined as life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by dysregulated host responses to infection. However, the detail of dysregulated host responses has not been clarified. Recent studies have suggested that damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) released from dying cells or activated leukocytes can be involved in the pathogenesis of remote organ dysfunction and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) in sepsis. We are developing new diagnostic and treatment strategies targeting DAMPs to improve the outcome of patients with sepsis. We also focus on the development of new diagnostic and treatment tools of cancer and thrombotic diseases.
