Research theme

Our department of Medical Image Analysis focuses on research in areas of comparison of image characteristics and improvement of image quality using X-ray, computed tomography (CT), and nuclear medicine images (e.g., positron emission tomography [PET] and single photon emission computed tomography [SPECT] images).

1) In the area of CT, we are conducting image reconstruction methods and image processing techniques for iterative reconstruction and deep learning reconstruction of images to optimize the X-ray dose while maintaining image quality. In addition, the department is studying the effects of increasing radiation doses using iodinated contrast materials on contrast-enhanced CT. 2) In the area of SPECT, we are focusing on the development of new quantification methods using 99mTc-pyrophosphate scintigraphy and dopamine transporter scintigraphy to improve diagnostic performance. In the field of PET, we are evaluating the quality of images using fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-PET in patients with hyperglycemia and safety of insulin use.
